de guide-des-morts à Toth

et la croix-T devient caducée ;
l’ancienne église invoque

saint Michel et Notre Dame
sur le lit de mort ; Hermès Trismégiste

transperce, avec saint Michel,
les ténèbres de l’ignorance,

jette le Vieux Dragon
dans l’abîme.

Ainsi saint Michel
régent de la planète Mercure,

n’est pas absent
quand nous convoquons les autres Anges,

une autre bougie apparaît
sur le grand-autel,

elle brûle d’une flamme puissante
mais frémit

et s’avive et s’assombrit
et s’avive à nouveau ;

souviens-toi, c’était Thot
avec une plume

qui pesait les âmes
des morts.

Hermes took his attribute
of Leader-of-the-dead from Thoth

and the T-cross becomes caduceus ;
the old-church makes its invocation

to Saint Michael and Our Lady
at the death-bed; Hermes Trismegistus

spears, with Saint Michael,
the darkness of ignorance,

casts the Old Dragon
into the abyss.

So Saint Michael,
regent of the planet Mercury,

is not absent
when we summon the other Angels,

another candle appears
on the high-altar,

it burns with a potent flame
but quivers

and quickens and darkens
and quickens again;

remember, it was Thoth
with a feather

who weighed the souls
of the dead.
